What is the soul of a man? Is it the same as his spirit? The soul and spirit are two different things.
When you received Jesus into your heart and became a born again believer, your spirit was instantly transformed into the image of God. The Holy Spirit came in to dwell on the inside of you and you received the nature of God. Your soul was not transformed, it did not change. Your soul is your mind, will and emotions. Your mind thinks, your will chooses and your emotions act. Our soul was not saved, we have to renew our mind and transform our soul through the word of God.
Rom 12:1,2- I beseech you therefore brethren by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God , which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. Even our body has to be transformed, we have to present our body as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable unto God, which is our reasonable service. God expects us to do that, it's our reasonable service. Our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, we can't live any way we want to, we have to live holy. God said be holy for I am holy. Don't be conformed to this world, don't think like the world, don't choose the things that the world chooses.
Don't act like the world, be transformed in your mind. The only way your mind can be transformed is through the word of God. Psalm 19:7- God's word can convert your soul. III John 2- Beloved I wish above all things that you prosper and be in health even as your soul prospers- your soul can prosper.
To prosper means to be successful, to thrive, to flourish. Matthew 16:26- What shall it profit a man to gain this whole world and lose his own soul? You can lose your soul. The soul of a man is precious in the sight of God. Jesus saves souls, he died to save your soul. When you die, your spirit goes back to God, but your soul has an option, it can go one of two places, heaven or hell.
Ezekiel 18:20- The soul that sinneth it shall die. The bible says that we are supposed to win souls for Christ. God wants your soul. Your soul is what God will judge. We have to get rid of stinking thinking. We were conditioned all our lives to think like the world, which is contrary to the way God thinks. Our thoughts are not his thoughts and our ways are not his ways. Our mind has to be renewed to think the way God thinks, then we can live a victorious Christian life. Renewing your mind is a process, it doesn't happen over night. The more time we spend meditating on the word of God, the quicker the process will be. Your soul also needs to be healed. Some of us have been through abuse, verbally, physically and sexually. We have low self-esteem, no confidence, disappointments, and trauma. Our hearts have been broken and these things effect our soul and make us feel hopeless. The enemy torments us with depression, fear, anger and rejection. The healing of the soul can be accomplished through the grace and peace of our Lord Jesus Christ. When we encounter the truth of God's word, stay in his presence through worship and prayer, the love of God and the healing power of the Holy Spirit will over shadow us. Inner healing gets to the deepest root of the pain from trauma and abuse and you will be totally and completely healed. Psalm 147:3- He healeth the broken in heart and bindeth their wounds. Take care of your soul, cherish it, renew your mind. Let your will be God's will for your life. Don't allow bitterness and unforgiveness enter your heart. Love God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength and your neighbor as yourself.
